Mission Statement
People’s Housing Lab (PHL) is a publication run by a volunteer-driven team of researchers, writers, and organizers working to reshape Philadelphia’s housing policy around the people who actually live here — not the billionaire investors profiting off our neighborhoods. We study how power shapes housing, interrogate housing policy myths, and center the lived experiences of residents. By exposing the predatory forces that create scarcity and instability, we contribute evidence-based, realistic, people-focused solutions grounded in the belief that housing is a human right and that our city deserves an economy that truly serves all Philadelphians.
Who We Are
People’s Housing Lab is run by a Steering Committee and supported by an Advisory Board of local housing experts.
Transparency Statement
People’s Housing Lab is fully independent and committed to transparency in our funding, governance, and editorial decision-making.
Our work is supported exclusively through reader subscriptions on www.comradery.co. We do not accept corporate sponsorships, foundation grants, government funding, or advertising. Our readers make our work possible.
People’s Housing Lab subscribes to the standards of editorial independence adopted by the Institute for Nonprofit News. Editorial decisions are made independently and are not influenced by donors, partners, or affiliated organizations.
We recognize that many of our contributors work (i.e., make a living) in and around the same institutions we may be analyzing and criticizing, and this may at times appear to be a conflict of interest. But our affiliations and commitments are also what make our work unique and important: We know these systems well. We remain committed to telling stories and presenting research with honesty and integrity.
Articles published by People’s Housing Lab do not necessarily reflect the personal opinions of every member of the Steering Committee. Articles and viewpoints expressed here do not necessarily reflect the positions of our employers.
The Advisory Board exists to provide advice, expertise, and institutional support. Articles published without explicitly including a named Advisory Board member as an author do not necessarily reflect the opinions of any Advisory Board members.
We believe that trust requires clarity. If you have questions about our funding, governance, or editorial process, we encourage you to contact us directly at hello@peopleshousinglab.org.
